The RISD Museum, located in Providence, RI, was founded in 1877 and now is the 20th largest art museum in the United States. My main goal for its rebranding is to challenge people’s stereotypical impressions of museums by incorporating minimal geometric elements with bold colors. I started out with researching the RISD museum’s history and brand identities of other similar art museums. For the logo, I used three quarter circles to form the letter “R” and “M”. I came up with the phrase “Future Past” as the slogan to reflect the core functions of a museum but put the emphasis on the "Future". I also designed posters, websites, and merchandise to form a coherent brand language. A brand identity manual was created to document and showcase my design.
