I have always been interested in isometric design. Moreover, I am also in need of a set of visual language to represent myself. Thus, when the opportunity comes, I decided to design a self-portrait for myself in the style of isometric design. I produced a set of icons to create a construction scene and present myself as a work in progress. Later, I had some fun using After Effect to turn my self-portrait into motion graphics.
Representing myself using icons is not an easy task, and it almost feel like I am materializing my personal identity. Some choices that I have made aim to illustrate my identity directly, like my nickname “JMa”, while others try to more abstractly tell people who I am, like the brushes and LEGO pieces. If you are curious about what each icon means, maybe reading my about page might help. However, when these icons come together to form a scene, their collective meanings also change. As the artist, I do not have a definitive answer to what the meanings are, and I also do not wish to have one. Open-endedness is a source of creativity, isn’t it?
